• How often will I need to fill the EnergyKing furnace?
Depending on the type of wood you use in your EnergyKing wood furnace will dictate the amount of times required to fill your wood furnace. Typically, you will refill the furnace twice a day in colder weather. Sometimes a little more depending upon the type and dryness of the wood.
• Can I install a wood furnace if I live in town?
EnergyKing indoor wood furnaces are a perfect fit for a close confined area. Consider the height of the exhaust stack and always remember to comply with all state and local codes.
• How often do I need to clean out ashes?
Ash removal is extremely easy with the included ash pan. The wood furnace is built with a separate ash access door for your safety while removing the ash when the unit is operating. It is important to clean out your ashes on at least a weekly basis. The ash pan should be emptied as needed, letting the ash buildup will eventually promote grate failure due to the excessive heating. At the end of the heating season, it is very important to clean out any ash deposits from the fire box. Cover the chimney when not in use in order to prevent moisture entering into this area. Moisture mixed with ash can create damage to the wood furnace.
•What Settings Should I Use For The Fan Limit Switch?
We recommend setting the fan limit switch to the following Settings, 160°,180°,200°. This tells the furnace, if the internal temperature is below 160°, run the draft inducer fan until the internal temperature is raised to 180°. At 180° the draft inducer fan will turn off until the internal temperature falls back to 160° and then repeat the process. The final setting of 200° is for safety, if the system reaches this internal temperature everything will shut off due to the excessive heat. You can modify these settings slightly depending upon your specific requirements. However, attempting to burn wood at a lower temperature range can lead to creosote buildup.
• Are the controls on a EnergyKing furnace complicated?
Absolutely not, EnergyKing utilizes furnace controls that are tried and true in the furnace industry.
• What is creosote and how can I reduce it?
When wood is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapors, which combine with expelled moisture from the wood to form a nasty product referred to as creosote. The creosote vapors condense in the firebox along with the relatively cool chimney flue area. As a result, creosote residue accumulates on the firebox and flue lining. The chimney connector and chimney should be inspected at least monthly to ensure everything is functioning correctly, and yearly by a HVAC professional to ensure proper operation and safety. If creosote has accumulated it should be removed to reduce the risk of a fire. In the case of a chimney fire,

• What's the best practice For burning wood in a wood furnace?
Paper and kindling should be used for starting the fire only. When loading your wood into the furnace, the best practice is to load the wood towards the back of the furnace first and then towards the front.
EnergyKing recommends only burning cut, split and dried seasoned hardwood. Do not overfill the unit so that hot coals fall out of the wood furnace when opening the fuel door.
